Reasons why Siebel CRM is defeated in current CRM Markets >> What is Siebel OpenUI

  • Oracle felt as undisputed leader in Customer Relationship Management software after acquiring Siebel CRM in 2006.
  • IBM being one of the biggest Siebel CRM customer dismissed Siebel for SugarCRM.

Oracle has not predicted the impact of IBM’s move.

  • Microsoft steps forward to its own Dynamics CRM instead of Siebel CRM.
  • Frustrated Siebel CRM customers with the software’s user interface.
  • Oracle’s Roadmap on Fusion CRM is still uncertain.

  • Observable competition among the software giants (IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, and Hewlett-Packard)

  • Customers are confused whether to continue to invest, wait or move to a different Customer Relationship Management system. It is expected this year most of Siebel CRM customers move away from Siebel CRM to other vendors (SugarCRM, Salesforce.com, Dynamics CRM). Not good news for Siebel

The impact might not stop at Siebel CRM but might also carry forward to Oracle applications, SAP.

  • Customers are more inclined towards Cloud CRM(Customer Relationship Management) / Open source CRM (Customer Relationship Management) vendors as they want to get away from costs of maintaining hardware, software version upgrades and get rid of licenses and maintenance costs. Obviously SaaS solution makes more sense in this flexible market needs/demands.

Customer Relationship Management being a multi-billion dollar market, competition between CRM vendors has to be in creating highly flexible services that meet the needs of a business rather than trying to just deploy the application.

  1. We must note some more points as well.
    1) Though IBM has selected SUGAR CRM over Siebel CRM, we need to check how much of Siebel's stack is lost (Though it was one of the biggest project). Because IBM was not the only company who purchased Siebel for its internal purpose. if it hardly contributes around 1 %, then it is still manageable.
    2) Above is applicable to HP as well. Ups and Downs are applicable to every company, not specific to Oracle. Have we ever analysed the real-truth of how much revenue was lost by Oracle siebel with the competition. If we have the figures, then we can prove that Siebel is going down.
    3) In the Open UI Roadmap document, I saw 89 % customers are using Siebel CRM. I would appreciate if you help me understanding this. Does that mean that 83 % of CRM customers are still using Siebel?
    4) Since Open UI is in place, now Customer may not necessarily worried about UI
    5) Now since oracle had given a road-map for siebel with plans till 2015, it will be active atleast till 2022 (because of the premium, extended and lifetime support)
    6) I could still see lots of Siebel implementations projects on-its-way to production..

I am not trying to say that Siebel CRM is performing very well.... But it was not in a bad shape as well.....

Also Gartner quadrant may keep Salesforce.com and MS Dynamics above Siebel CRM, but it may be from the growth and maturity perspective, may not be in the revenue perspective. If I am right, Oracle Siebel is continuing to contribute in the bigger part of CRM Revenues... (Please let me know if this statement is wrong)....

Found your blog is interesting, and wanted to contribute to that...
